Welcome to Pen and Ink, a blog about writing. In the modern world of writing, it seems that anything goes. Because of the power of the internet and the ease of modern publishing, many writers that never would have been published in the past now have a voice. The result is that the literary world is filled with lots of terrible writing. Modern writing is whatever you want it to be, no matter how stylistically incorrect or substance-less it may be. After all, it is genuine, right? Not so.
Words have meaning and, properly used, they can have great power. The great writers of the past understood that. I do not believe that writing is bad because it is modern; many of my favorite poets and authors are from the modern era. However, it is my conviction that there is a clear line between good and bad writing, and that good writing is not a literary free for all. My goal is to introduce; or re-introduce; the reader with the great authors of years gone by, as well as modern authors.
I will attempt to share the joy of words by posting great poems, short stories, book recommendations and reviews, articles, essays, and more. I hope that as a result of reading this blog you will gain enjoyment as well as a desire to take up your own pen and write. Most importantly, I would that you come to love words, for a good writer, as well as a good reader, must first and foremost love words.

Blingo is the latest search engine on the scene, and its a search engine with a twist. Well, its sort of a search engine powered by google (like aol: if you can’t beat em, join em). The idea with blingo though is that with every search you have a chance to win something free. Apparently prizes are given out all the time. Weather or not it actually works I have yet to find out, but I think it’s worth a try. The only problem is that you have to make an account, but that’s not really a problem if it happens you actually win something.
Blingo is a product of publishers clearing house.
Photoreal Painting
May 22nd, 2007I stumbled upon this incredibly realistic painting and I thought that it was worth sharing. I have stared at it for several minutes and I can’t find anything that would give away the fact that it is not really a photo. Wow!
This painting was done by Dru Blair as a test of his painting abilities. Well Dru, I think you passed with flying colors.
